Frequently Asked Questions
This page is inspired by the FAQ on Welcome to Barbados. Shannon's idea was so brilliant that I had to shamelessly steal it and use it on this site. If you haven't checked out Barbados, you really should. It is a beautiful place. Anyway, on with the FAQ...

Me Questions
- I sent you an email and you didn't reply. What's the deal?
- I'm sorry! I am really busy person and I can't always answer all of the email that I get. I do read and appreciate it all. If you'd like feedback from other survivors, you should check out Pandora's Aquarium. It's a wonderful message board/support group.
- Are you an expert or counselor?
- No. I am a survivor, just like you. I have not been trained as a peer counselor and I am by no means a professional.
- Do you do talks? Can I interview you?
- Yes! Check out the speaking out section for more information.
- Where are you from?
- I'm not a big fan of stalkers. It makes me nervous when people ask me this question, so you're pretty much guaranteed to not get an email back.
- Are you a real person?
- Last time I checked! Here is a little ramble about me:
I'm Lis. My name is pronounced Liz. I am a 24 year old law student. In undergrad, I double majored in English and Law. It is nearly impossible for people to gain my trust. I couldn't do an art project to save my soul. I once owned TWO ferrets (and regretted it). I am very dependable. I am addicted to Tropicana orange juice. Caffeine makes me loony. I watch Jerry Springer and laugh my butt off. I have a dog and two cats... and a horse. I would marry Jon Stewart if he asked me (and David Duchovny too). I once had to have surgery because I fell while swinging someone else around by the arms (I'm coordinated). I would rather die than drink water - it's gross. I am always on time. I get bored easily. I don't like people telling me what to do. I have been a vegetarian for ten years. I hate crying with a fiery passion. I am not religious. I am a workaholic. I could never, in a million years, decide on one Tori song as my favorite. I like reading trashy crime/mystery novels. I am a good driver and not afraid to share that fact. I can't spell. I am not afraid to speak my mind. My two favorite movies are Jurassic Park and Dumb & Dumber. I scored almost perfect on the verbal SATs, but only got a 590 on the math (go figure). I love taking photographs but I am horrible at it. I am an amazing writer. My favorite stuffed animal is a seal named Seal. I always wear two different socks. I am very bad with money. I don't like rules. I could keep rambling about myself forever, but I have to go to my riding lesson. You can read more about me in my story.

Random Questions
- Doesn't Tori Amos mention something about Persephone in one of her songs?
- Yep. The song is called "Pandora's Aquarium." This song is also where Shannon got the name for Ripple Back to Me, the mailing list. The lyrics are:
Pandora
Pandora’s Aquarium
She dives for shells
With her nautical nuns
And thoughts you thought
You’d never tell
I am not asking you to believe in me
Boy I think you’re confused
I’m not Persephone
Foam can be dangerous
With tape across my mouth
Those things you do
I never asked you how
Line me up in single file
With all your grievances
Stare but I can taste
You’re still alive
Below the waste
Ripples come and ripples go
And ripple back to me
Pandora
Pandora’s aquarium
She dives for shells
With her nautical nuns
And thoughts you thought
You’d never tell
Line me up in single file
With all your grievances
Stare but I can taste
You’re still alive below the waste
Ripples come and ripples go
And ripple back to me
I am not asking you to believe in me
Boy I think you’re confused
I’m not Persephone
She’s in New York somewhere
Checking her accounts
The Lord of The Flies was diagnosed as Sound
- I'd like more information about Tori Amos. Where can I find it?
Dumb Questions
- I worship the god Hades. You shouldn't slander him like this.
- First of all, this isn't a question. Secondly, this site is not about Hades, it is about healing. The name was taken from a Greek myth in which Persephone is raped by Hades. Go read it.
- Do you worship the god Persephone?
- Um... no. I chose Escaping Hades as the name of this site because it seemed to fit after I read the myth, but this site has nothing to do with mythology (duh).
- I have a different interpretation of the myth of Persephone. You should change yours!
- Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah
- People might come to your site and read the survivor stories to "get off" - you should take your site down because of this!
- It is my hope that anyone who comes to the site looking for a porn site, will be moved by the stories of survivors, and realize that rape is not something sexual. It is an act of violence.
