An estimated 1 in 4 women will be raped while in college (between the ages of 18 and 24). Here are some tips for staying safe not only at school, but in your home, car and in other places. Here, I make suggestions on ways to "avoid" dangerous situations. However, I think it is important to understand that a survivor could not have done anything to "avoid" being raped. The fact that they survived is evidence enough that they did the right thing, as an alarming number of rapists kill their victims. Please take these suggestions as ways you can keep yourself safe, but not as an indication that you did something to "deserve" being raped. Remember: it was not your fault.
